Children and teens express distress in different ways. For some, it shows up as defiance, anger, or rule-breaking; for others, as frustration, impulsivity, or emotional outbursts that seem to come out of nowhere. When these behaviors become persistent and begin to interfere with relationships, school performance, or family harmony, a behavioral or conduct disorder may be part of the underlying cause.
At Insightful Mind Psychology Services, we believe behavior is communication. A child acting out isn’t necessarily “bad” they may be struggling with emotional regulation, attention challenges, or environmental stressors they can’t yet put into words. Our behavioral and conduct disorder evaluations are designed to help parents, caregivers, and schools understand what’s driving these behaviors so that interventions can be effective, compassionate, and tailored to the child’s needs.
We conduct a comprehensive assessment that looks beyond the surface. This may include clinical interviews with parents and children, standardized behavioral rating scales, and when appropriate, input from teachers or other caregivers. We assess conditions such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), and other related concerns, while also screening for ADHD, learning differences, mood disorders, or trauma-related issues that can mimic or exacerbate behavioral problems.
ODD typically involves defiance and irritability, while CD includes more serious rule violations or aggression.
With early intervention and support, many children show significant improvement.
If you wish, we can gather input from teachers to ensure a complete understanding of behavior patterns.
No. While boys are often diagnosed more, girls can also exhibit significant behavioral challenges.
